The student is able to warm up their body safely and practice yoga with more support and stability. Poses are done seated on the chair or the chair is used for support during standing poses and balancing. Chair Yoga is suitable for all ages, fitness levels and physical conditions and especially beneficial for people with physical limitations.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a martial art originating from China that involves slow, graceful movements, breathing techniques, and meditation to enhance health and balance the body’s energy. It focuses on improving flexibility, balance, and tranquility through a series of flowing, gentle movements.
Tai Chi Balance and Arthritis Program – In 1997, Dr. Paul Lam, a family physician and tai chi expert, worked with a team of tai chi and medical specialists to create the Tai Chi for Arthritis program. The special features of this unique program are that it is easy to learn, enjoyable, and provides many health benefits in a relatively short period of time.
Medical studies have shown that practicing this program reduces pain significantly, prevents falls for the elderly, and improves many aspects of health. For these reasons, Arthritis Foundations around the world have supported the program; in particular the Arthritis Foundation of America. Tai Chi for arthritis program is based on Sun style Tai Chi.
